Engine Computer Diagnostics

A modern vehicle can produce many different fault codes which are picked up by sensors that continually report to the ECU (Engine Control Unit) and tell it how your vehicle is performing.

When a problem occurs, the fault is logged on the ECU’s memory. A diagnostic code reader has to be used to read the fault or message and to clear any fault codes from the memory.

CHECK ENGINE & OTHER WARNING LIGHTS

All modern vehicles are equipped with an on-board computer diagnostic system (OBDII) that constantly monitors your vehicle’s engine and transmission together with the entire electrical systems. The main purpose of monitoring these systems is to insure that the vehicle is operating at top efficiency with the lowest possible emissions.

A warning light comes on because the computer has sensed a signal from one of the systems or components that has gone outside of its normal operating range. The computer then sends a signal to turn on the light on your dashboard to let you know something is wrong!
